Gaskin Farms

The agriculture industry is a big part of Richmond East living, so I've decided to take some time every month to highlight a particular farm and its contributions to our community. This month, I am thrilled to introduce Gaskin Farms as one of many wonderful businesses that make Richmond a great place to call home.

Gaskin Farms is a local blueberry farm owned and run by John Gaskin and his family. John has worked on a farm his entire life and started this farm with his brother 60 years ago. Gaskin Farms is one of many blueberry farms in and around Richmond. It encompasses 55 acres and produces 340,000 pounds of blueberries every year. John is proud to say that his vines are just as old as his farm – pruning the vines carefully keeps his blueberries coming back each year.

Did you know?

•BC grows 95% of the Canadian production of cultivated blueberries. This is about 9 million kilograms per year.
•In the last 10 or 15 years, per capita consumption of blueberries has doubled.
•Blueberries are one of the best sources of antioxidants. They can help slow the aging process and reduce cell damage that can lead to cancer, cardiovascular disease and loss of brain function.
